SPECIFICATION FOR

STORED DIESEL FUEL QUALITY MAINTENANCE SYSTEM

3-GALLON PER MINUTE  (PLC VERSION)

GENERAL:

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:

This section specifies the diesel fuel quality maintenance equipment for standby diesel powered generator sets that operate in a critical environment and must be available when needed.

INSTALLATION LOCATION:

System shall be installed on a concrete floor or pad convenient to a 15 Amp 110VAC power source to allow for plug-in or hard wire power connection.

Diesel fuel supply and return piping from bulk storage tank to quality maintenance system are to be separate from piping for diesel engine and day tank. Supply or pick up line from bulk storage tank is to be at bottom of tank on one end, and return line is to be at top of tank on opposite end. The quality maintenance system inlet shall not be more than 18 feet above the bottom of the bulk stored diesel fuel container.

System supply and return lines are to be 3/4" black iron.  Reducers, elbows, or other piping restrictions are to be avoided where possible. The quality maintenance system shall be located as close as possible to the bulk storage tank.

PRODUCT:

The quality maintenance system will consist of a metal framed cabinet with hinged lid for ease of element replacement and a hinged front door to facilitate servicing. Contained within the cabinet will be a filtration module offering a centrifuge action, coalescing plate and one replaceable filter element. The unit shall have a positive displacement pump powered by a heavy duty 110/220 VAC, totally enclosed, fan cooled motor capable of continuous operation.

Installation instructions and drawings showing outside dimensions of metal cabinet, diesel fuel inlet and outlet pipe locations, water drain outlet pipe, and location/length of electrical cord shall be supplied by the manufacturer.

THE QUALITY MAINTENANCE SYSTEM SHALL INCLUDE AS A MINIMUM:

A. MAIN ON-OFF SWITCH - This switch connects 110VAC current to the system and provides overload protection for the pump motor.

MAIN BREAKER - To protect the 110VAC system from overload.

SECONDARY FUSE - To protect the low voltage system from overload.

PLC AND REAL TIME CLOCK - To provide adjustable time cycle time and control logic for the unit.

CONTROL VOLTAGE SECTION - To provide low voltage power to tank probes and switching circuitry.

ELECTRICAL ENCLOSURE - All electrical switching and controlling apparatus to be contained in a NEMA rated liquid tight enclosure.

WIRING - All primary wire to be 14AWG rated 600V THHN oil resistant. All primary wiring exiting liquid tight enclosure to be encased in liquid tight conduit. Secondary wiring to be minimum 20AWG 600V THHN oil resistant encased in liquid tight conduit as required to maintain NEMA rating.

MOTOR/S - All motors shall be fully enclosed, ball bearing, and fan cooled.

POWER SUPPLY CORD - 10 foot length S.O. 12AWG with external ground.

AUTOMATIC WATER DRAIN - A separate positive displacement pump and motor with associated sensors and controls to remove accumulated water from bottom of filtration canister and to pump the water to a user supplied holding tank.

PETCOCK VALVE - To relieve vacuum from filtration canister when replacing filters.

EXTERNAL SELECTORS/S - To switch system on and off from outside control panel and select either continuous manual operation or automatic timed cycle mode.

EXTERNAL PILOT LAMP - To indicate system is in operation.

EXTERNAL WATER SENSOR ALARM - To alert personnel (audible alarm) should water need draining.

PAINT COLORS - The frame, mounts, and filtration module should be painted white; all panels and lid to be painted white.

DIMENSIONS - Viewed from control panel the cabinet shall be no more than 24" wide, 10" deep and 38" in height.

THE QUALITY MAINTENANCE SYSTEM SHALL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING OPTIONAL FEATURES:

MANUAL WATER DRAIN - The system shall be provided without the standard automatic water drain feature and shall include a manual drain valve to remove accumulated water from the bottom of the filtration canister.

VACUUM PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL TRANSDUCER - shall be provided to alert the user (audible alarm & warning light) that the filter elements need replacing or that the flow of fuel through the system has been interrupted. The actuation (set) point and the reactivation (reset) point each shall be independently adjustable via the PLC. The switch will control electrical circuits in response to changes in vacuum and or pressure.

STATUS AND ALARM PANEL - shall be provided to indicate the following status and alarm conditions (1) PRIMARY PUMP IS IN OPERATION (2) AUTO DRAIN PUMP IS IN OPERATION (3) CHANGE FILTER ALARM IS ILLUMINATED & SOUNDING (4) HIGH WATER IN CANISTER IS PRESENT AND ALARMING. A terminal strip shall be provided with normally open contacts that indicate the above four conditions by contact closures.

LITERATURE - Two copies each of the operating instructions, diagnostics, and parts list should be provided by manufacturer.

MANUFACTURER - Shall be Fuel Purification, LLC, 1208 West Marshall Street Richmond, Virginia, USA 23220-3024 Telephone (804) 358-0125 Fax 804- 358-4200 All primary functional components to be manufactured by Fuel Purification, LLC.

CAPACITY - The system shall have the capacity to make two complete changes of bulk stored diesel fuel per week of tanks ranging from 500 to 5,000 gallons in size.
